The pain turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. Lovely, right? At least it's not as bad as it could have been.

I stayed with the parents last night and will be back in Atlanta tomorrow. Yay.

The puppy has adopted me as her new favorite person ever. Dad is still cranky and mad at everything. So really, not much has changed.

But I get another night with the puppy. Yay!

More on this later. No progress yet, much to some folks' dismay. But David and I are lying in bed at 230 am on our phones doing our things.

We are such nerds. Holy crap.

Disjointed thoughts from the road

First, I hope anyone affected by Irene is safe. I haven't been able to track Irene as much as I would like thanks to putting off packing to the eleventh hour.

I'm on the road right now. I'm not driving, don't worry. By the end of the day I'll be unloaded and in my new place.

This year's Nanowrimo will be the best ever. I'm sure of it.

My gloves can finally be reunited. On a related topic, I can get whatever it was that David got me.

I still ned to get my ticket to the JoCo show. Unrelated, I need a plot for the three day novel weekend. Aaaaah.

I got a new computer on Sunday and she is shiny and fast. Her name is Marigold and she is running Arch Linux. Dora will become a server, but I probably won't mess with her until after Labor Day weekend.

Next post will be from Nanolanta!

Updates and things

I'm at my cousin's yard sale right now. She and her daughter moved in with her dad/my uncle, and now their stuff is taking over the house. And that doesn't include all the stuff she still has in  storage. Solution to that: a yard sale.
On a whim.

A good bit of the family is here right now, including the cousins who got taken away from their mother but are now technically adults or close enough. Uncle Pat is asleep, but he goes in and out through the day.

Dad got diagnosed with diabetes recently. To be honest I'm not all that surprised. He's overweight and doesn't eat the healthiest diet. Uncle Pat and Grandmother have diabetes and prediabetes, respectively, and are both also overweight, so again I'm not too surprised. This is quite the bummer for Dad, as he'll have to start eating more healthily, something he has trouble with.

On a somewhat related now, a longtime family friend died last Saturday. I've known him since I was a little kid, and he knew Dad and Uncle Pat and my grandparents for about forty years. John loved horses and raised and trained them for most of his life. His niece, the daughter of one of my high school math teachers, also loved them, and they grew close. She was with him when he died. They were out with the horses when he just fell over and died. He was in his late fifties, a couple of years older than Dad.

To show what an effect this has had, Uncle Pat shaved off his enormous beard and got his hair cut for the funeral. For a man who is so big he can hardly bathe himself sometimes, this says a lot. I hope Dad uses this as motivation to get healthy.

I'm halfway to the minimum $250 for this year's Night of Writing Dangerously. Yay! Thanks! Now to dress like my Twitter icon. You can donate here if you would like.

Also, I'm moving back to Atlanta next weekend. I have not started packing. Eep.

I think that's about it for now.

Life update

I haven't updated in awhile. Let's change that.

I have a few paid gigs at the moment, one writing and one tutoring. The tutoring will probably end soon since the family will likely be moving at the end of the summer, but it's not bad for now. I have grand plans that are under wraps for now so I don't jinx them, but let me say that they are grand.

I still haven't started Camp Nanowrimo yet. Oops. I will start eventually. Really. I've been trying to catch up on other things in my life that I haven't done since getting this piece of shiny. Those things accumulate, you know.

I haven't been reading much lately. Oops. I also haven't been working on Wikiwrimo much. I blame #nanolanta for being so awesomely distracting. :p Okay, not really. Well, maybe a little.

The time, it flees. Right now I'm waiting at Great Clips to get a trim. Woo. Good time to update, especially with the storm that just passed.

Also, I'm on Google+ if you want to add me there. Look for Sushi M. Write. I still have no clue what I'm going to do with it, though.

I have a new phone!

I have finally entered the world of the smartphone. It was about time, too. I used the same dumbphone for the last four years. Wow. Anyway, I'm just testing the LJ app and posting something quick. Any recs on what to do with this thing/Android apps to download are welcome.
