Recreating mathematics

When I woke up yesterday morning, I was in a half-awake state. I was thinking of perfect numbers and how all the ones we know about are even. Then I thought about triangular numbers and how the first two perfect numbers are also triangular. Even though I was too lazy to see if the third perfect number was also triangular, I thought that it was, so I thought of a way to prove it. In order to do that, though, I had to read more about it.

So I went to my friend the Wikipedia and began to read more about perfect numbers. That was when I discovered the recreation of mathematics: when we don't realize that someone has already discovered a connection, we rediscover things. Through discovering things that nobody else has realized can we find new meaning.
